Turquoise
Turquoise is a hydrous copper aluminium phospate. Turquoise was one of the first gemstones to be mined by man, where beads of turquoise have been found in Iraq dating back to 5000bc. Its name stems from the french word for Turkey, as stones that were transported to Europe were shipped through Turkey.
Turquoise has a history of use as a talisman, used by shamans, kings and warriors. It was prized as a symbol of power and wisdom. In many cultures it was a token of significance, protection and good luck. It is an aid to prevent accidents and the loss of possessions. It has a protective quality and is a good stone for travelling. It strengthens us, and is useful for exhaustion, depression and anxiety.
