The megalodon was a giant shark that lived in prehistoric times during the Neogene period.

It is the largest carnivorous fish known to have existed.

The earliest known remains of megalodon are about 18 million years old and it is believed that they became extinct about 1.5 million years ago in the pleistocene epoch.
